Hemorrhoids – The Unpleasant, But Preventable Annoyance

Have you ever gotten yourself in the habit of eating late night meals, perhaps full of empty calories, starches, and processed, over preserved items? These tempting, and often tasty, treats can serve as much-needed comfort food, but they can also serve as a slow harbinger of hemorrhoids. As more processed foods are ingested, especially foods lacking a beneficial amount of dietary fiber, the build up of undigestable foods creates pressure on the lower intestine and colon, creating unhealthy amounts of pressure and buildup during bowel movements.

A diet without fiber can cause someone to strain during bowel movements, which subsequently puts pressure on the blood vessels in the area. If there happens to be blood in your stool, even if it isn’t painful, this is a clear indicator of impending hemorrhoids. The answer? Fiber! Eating fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and whole grains are paramount in ensuring solid, dry bowel movements become a part of your routine. Without this gastrointestinal cleansers you can very likely form an unsavory case of constipation, which not only can help lead to hemorrhoids, but can severely exasperate the problem once hemorrhoids have been developed.

What we DON’T want is people across this country sitting on embarrassing little inflatable donuts to counteract the rear end pain hemorrhoids bless us with. If you do develop hemorrhoids made sure that you are no longer eating, to put it one way, junk. The more caloric, fatty, and greasy foods you eat, the more the hemorrhoids will develop and the longer it will take for them to be eradicated. Creams and gels from manufacturers like Preparation H do add some relief and help ease along the recovery process.

In rare situations a trip to a gastroenterologist is needed. In these hastened instances the hemorrhoid has been generally ignored and not treated by either dietary corrections, better sleeping habits, attempts to not sit extensively on the painful area, or a neglect to use proper over-the-counter medication. Going to a doctor for a tricky hemorrhoid is a less than desirable situation, but one that a gastroenterologist can easily clear up, it just won’t be very pleasant.

Remember, watch what your eating and make sure that if you feel slight discomfort around your rectum area or see bright red blood in your stool begin taking the necessary steps to curtail any further complications leading to hemorrhoids. Be in good health!
